The life of a college student is a busy one and it can get pretty stressful after running around from class to your job to extra curricular activities. It’s important to take the time to unwind after a long day. Stress can grow to be dangerous and inhibiting if you let it catch up to you and don’t take time for yourself.

Follow these no-fail ways to unwind after a long day to stay healthy and sane.

1. Take a bath

This is stereotypically seen as a more feminine way to relax, but they’re on to something. Fill up your tub with some hot water and throw in a Lush bath bomb or bubbles. Light some candles to set the mood and to add some sweet aroma to the room.

Get your Bluetooth speaker and put on your favorite, most relaxing playlist. Bring in your current reading material and enjoy yourself for the next hour.

2. Read a book

Escape the real world for a little while and immerse yourself in another world. Whether it is an elaborate fantasy world or the latest murder case in a small town, you can enjoy someone else’s problems or adventures for a short time. It doesn’t matter how much you read, it can be only a few pages or the whole book, as long as you are able to forget about real life.

3. Watch Netflix

We all know that binge watching your favorite show on Netflix is one of the best things college students get to do. So why not take this luxury and use it to unwind after a long day? Just like getting lost in a book and escaping reality, you can be in the world of your favorite characters and laugh and cry with them.

4. Color

It was recently considered trendy to buy a coloring book and a set of high-end colored pencils from Barnes and Noble to color in medallions and intricate scenes. Though the hype has faded, coloring is another great way to unwind after a long day. The most stressful thing about it is choosing which colors go with each other.

5. Do a puzzle

Some may find puzzles more stressful than relaxing. It depends on your personality whether you find puzzles intimidating or a challenge. Completing a puzzle can also be a two person activity, which means you can enjoy some great conversation and talk about your stressful day while putting together a beautiful picture.

6. Yoga

Yoga is the epitome of relaxation. When you focus on your breathing, clearing your mind, and focusing on the present, you can feel the stress of the day lift from your shoulders. If your university offers free yoga classes, make sure to take advantage! If not, there are many instructional videos that you can find online. So grab your mat and do some poses!

Whether it is getting involved in a pickup game or running a few miles on the treadmill, exercising is a no-fail way to unwind from a long day.

8. Journal

Writing things down is extremely therapeutic. If you are stressing about something, whether it is big or small, writing down your thoughts about it and working out why you are stressed can help tremendously. It doesn’t have to be a formal journal entry with any explanation. In fact, it can even be a bulleted list! As long as you are getting your thoughts down, it is a no-fail way to unwind from a long day.

10. Go for a walk

If it is a beautiful day, go for a walk. We always walk somewhere with a destination in mind and sometimes in a rush. Take an hour or two just to wander around your city or neighborhood and appreciate the beauty and character of where you live. Put in some headphones and get lost in your music.
